POTALA PALACE, JOKHANG TEMPLE, AND BARKHOR STREET
Today you will visit the must-visit places in Lhasa included in UNESCO World Heritage list. Potala Palace is the residence of the Dalai Lama. Seventh century Jokhang temple houses over 2,500 years old statue of Jowo Shakyamuni.
SERA AND DREPUNG MONASTERIES
This tour visits two of the most important monasteries in Lhasa. Drepung was once the largest monastery in the world with over 10,000 monks. In Sera we will watch monk’s debates on Buddhist subjects.
SERA MONASTERY AND KORA AROUND IT
In this full day tour to Sera monastery we will visit many of the most important chapels inside the complex, including colleges. In addition, we will walk the pilgrimage route around the monastery.
DREPUNG MONASTERY AND NECHUNG ORACLE TEMPLE
The tour visits Drepung monastery, once the largest monastery. It takes almost entire day to visit its huge complex. After seeing the most important chapels, we will visit Nechung Oracle temple. Nechung Oracle advises the Dalai Lama when he needs to make a difficult and important decision.
GANDEN MONASTERY AND HORSE RIDING
Ganden monastery is located on top of the mountain naturally forming an amphitheater. To appreciate the beauty of the surrounding landscape, we will walk the high kora around the monastery.
After visiting the monastery, you will ride a horse in the valley below Ganden monastery. You will see nomadic settlements with yak wool tents piercing the landscape.
MEDITATION CAVES IN DRAK YERPA
Drak Yerpa is a complex of meditation caves on a hillside of the mountain. Many famous teachers and Buddhist practitioners spend years in Drak Yerpa meditating and teaching Buddhism. Today we will visit these caves and temples.
This tour is also great if you are preparing for a trekking adventure in Tibet because it helps to acclimatize.
DRAK YERPA AND GANDEN MONASTERY
Today we start by visiting Drak Yerpa and spending time in its temple and meditation caves. In the afternoon we will drive to Ganden monastery to visit the most important chapels and enjoy the majestic view from the top of the hill.
TSURPU MONASTERY, THE SEAT OF KARMAPA
Tsurpu monastery is located about 1 hour of driving away from Lhasa. The monastery will be very interesting for all followers of Karmapa. You can learn about the history of Kagyu Sect and its head – Karmapa.
DRIGUN TIL MONASTERY
Drigun Til monastery was founded in the 12th century and belongs to the Drikung Kagyu tradition. The monastery sits on top of the hill with an incredible view on the valley.
PABONGKA MONASTERY AND LIGHT TREKKING
We will start by visiting one of he oldest meditation sites in Tibet – the cave in Pabongka monastery. After that we will trek through mountain ranges to a small nunnery.
NORBULINGKA AND RAMOCHE TEMPLES
Norbulingka is the Summer Palace of Dalai Lamas in a gorgeous park setting. It is perfect for a relaxing day with easy walk. Ramoche temple was built at the same time as Jokhang, but not as crowded with tourists.
One day getaway to the gorgeous Namtso lake. This saline lake lays high in the mountains surrounded by snow-capped peaks.
